Thanks everyone who took part in this year's Oxford University Film
Festival; it was a fantastic week of great student films, great talks,
and the commandeering of a whole cinema screen (for one night only).
If you weren't there, well, why not?! Here's an overview of the week's awesome events: Monday 1st March - Make-a-film Challenge 10 A.M. - 1 P.M. Meet at Rainolds Room, Corpus Christi Upon arriving, contestants were divided into small groups and taken to a room with limited props, and a very simple camera. Their task in that time is to film something inventive and fun with what's available - using the so-called limitations of the camera to their advantage and having a good time! We processed the films overnight and presented them at Wednesday's Best and Worst night. Tuesday 2nd March - Cuppers Final! 8 P.M Phoenix Picturehouse, 57 Walton Street The best Cuppers films were screened for all to see at the oldest cinema in Jericho; the Phoenix Picturehouse. Wednesday 3rd March - Double Whammy Real Filmmaking 7.30 P.M. Rainolds Room, Corpus Christi - free wine Best and Worst 9 P.M. Corpus Auditorium - free wine Two events on Wednesday for your delight. Early in the evening, we played host to a talk from Margy Kinmonth, awarding winning film and TV director who won the Best Documentary BAFTA for her star studded series Naked Hollywood. This was followed by the 'Best and Worst of OUFF', a chance to kick back and see the triumph and the trash of OUFF's history over the past thirty years. Thursday 4th March - Cuppers Award Ceremony 7.30 P.M. Corpus Auditorium - free champagne The closest we're gonna get to the Oscars in Oxford, it was time to suit up and head down to Corpus, where the Cuppers judges talked and presented awards to the winning Cuppers entries. Judges included Jonathan Darby, head of the European branch of Al Gore's Participant Media. Previously a teacher at UCLA and a founding member of OUFF, Jonathan's short movie Contact, starring Brad Pitt, was nominated for an Oscar. Returning to Oxford was Patrick Uden, producer, writer and director, whose more recent work includes production of The Apprentice and The Restaurant for the BBC. Patrick has previously served as a judge at the BAFTA awards. Friday 5th March - How to be an Actor Talk and AFTERPARTY Talk - 7.30 P.M Corpus Auditorium Afterparty in conjunction with ISIS - 9 P.M. Babylove Bar Rounding out the week, we had a talk from English stage and screen actress, Natascha McElhone, whose previous credits include The Truman Show, Californication, and Steven Soderbergh's remake of Solaris alongside George Clooney. Anyone interested in what goes on in front of the camera, rather than behind, found this talk particularly nifty. The week then ended with a bang, a cool afterparty in conjunction with ISIS seeing everything off in style at Babylove. |
